Ik ben Vanessa, geboren in 1979, mama van een zoontje, afkomstig uit Ternat (Vlaams-Brabant), grote dierenvriend en vegetariër. Als kind al was ik aangetrokken en gefascineerd door foto’s en foto’s maken. Ik liep vaak rond met wegwerpcamera’s. Niets of niemand was veilig…
Tijdens Rock Ternat in 2011 kreeg ik de microbe van de concertfotografie te pakken. Een vriend fotograaf leende mij zijn materiaal en ik was vertrokken. Nu ja, in feite deed ik maar wat, want ik snapte amper iets van sluitertijd, diafragma, ISO of belichting.
Het is dan ook een hele uitdaging om degelijke concertfoto's te maken. Het licht verandert continu, soms is er gewoon geen licht, veel artiesten staan geen seconde stil en je krijgt meestal hooguit drie liedjes de tijd om je foto's te maken.
Nadien kocht ik me een spiegelreflexcamera en de creatieve bal ging al snel aan het rollen. Intussen mag ik me, na een driejarige avondopleiding bij Syntra in Gent, sinds 2016 een «gediplomeerde fotograaf» noemen. Ik verdiepte me tegelijk verder in concertfotografie en kwam in 2014 terecht bij Matthias Hombauer, een toonaangevende Duitse concertfotograaf die online-opleidingen geeft voor beginnende concertfotografen. Ik verslond ook zijn «Guide to Rockstar Concert Photography», volg zijn blog en zijn vele tips en tricks op zijn Facebookpagina.
Sinds 2015 ben ik één van de zes officiële fotografen van het Couleur Café festival in Brussel. Ik kan me geen leven voorstellen zonder muziek of zonder fotografie. De beste combinatie van beide is... concertfotografie.

Hello and welcome to my website.
I’m Vanessa, born in 1979, mom of a son, living in Ternat (Belgium). I’m a big animal lover and a vegetarian. Already as a child I was attracted to and fascinated by pictures and taking pictures. You could find me walking around with disposable cameras. Nothing and nobody was ever safe…
During Rock Ternat in 2011 I got infected by the concert photography vibe. A friend photographer lent me his material and that's how it all got started. Well, in fact, back then I didn’t actually get anything about shutters, diaphragms, ISO or exposure.
It is a big challenge to make good concert photos. The lights change continuously, sometimes there is just no light at all, many artists don’t stand still for a second, and you usually have your chances of not more than three songs to succeed with your photos.
Afterwards I bought an SLR camera and tried to get creative. Meanwhile, after a three-year training in evening school at Syntra in Ghent, I finally have my photography licence (since 2016). I went on with concert photography, in 2014 I found Mathhias Hombauer, a leading German concert photographer, providing online training for beginner concert photographers. I bought his “Guide to Rockstar Concert Photography”, and have been following his blog with many tips and tricks, and his Facebook page, too.
Since 2015 I've been one of the six official photographers of Couleur Café festival in Brussels. I cannot imagine life without music or photogrpahy. And the best combo is... guess what... concert photography.
